Today was our Groundbreaking Ceremony! Despite the heat and humidity, we had a great turnout of Mudflat artists, students and supporters. Everyone had an opportunity to get a good look at the interior of the building. We had our architectural drawings up for everyone to see. There were short congratulatory speeches by Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone, Ward 1 Alderman Bill Roche, East Somerville Main Streets Director Carrie Dancy, Somerville Arts Council Director Greg Jenkins and Main Streets President Susan Fontano. Lynn introduced the Project team – Cassius, Joe, Tony and Tom, the Mudflat staff, and the Mudflat Board of Directors. Vice President Lisa Dittrich also spoke.

Since this was a groundbreaking, but the ground was already broken, we decided we should break something else. Here’s Cary Atsalis and Lisa Dittrich breaking some pots filled with confetti! The event ended with handmade cups filled with sparkling cider to toast the new building. And a look ahead to the grand opening celebration next summer!
